Rookie Update

Tuesday, February 01, 2011 (12:48)
Three more rookies got their names onto the list of players who have earned money on the 2011 Sunshine Tour after last week’s Africom Zimbabwe Open.
JG Claassen (former NorthWest Junior Player), Andre van Zyl and Tyrone Ryan took advantage of making the cut at Royal Harare Golf Club to join Allan Versfeld, Argentina’s Daniel Vancsik and last year’s winner of the Freddie Tait Trophy at the SA Open Championship Dean O’Riley on the 2011 Order of Merit.
Claassen and O’Riley were the best finishers in Harare, sharing 20th spot with Peter Karmis and earning R14,291 each.
That took O’Riley closer to second-placed Vancsik, who won’t be earning too much more on the 2011 Sunshine Tour as he attempts to make his way on the European Tour.
Versfeld maintained his lead in the race for the Rookie of the Year award when he finished in a share of 36th place in Zimbabwe – his tie for seventh at the Joburg Open earning him a cool R259,000 and giving him a head start in a race which will get closer as the year develops.
Van Zyl was also in a share of 36th place in Harare, and Ryan was in a three-way tie for 63rd.
Standings after Africom Zimbabwe Open:
R267,501.60 Allan Versfeld
R78,672.00 Daniel Vancsik (ARG)
R42,627.66 Dean O’Riley
R14,291.66 JG Claassen
R8,500.00 Andre van Zyl
R3,187.50 Tyrone Ryan |
